Argopelter

Nasty ape-like creatures that live in hollow trees waiting for unsuspecting travelers to walk by in order to throw branches at them.

These beasties come from the many tall-tales lumberjacks would tell to each other during the olden times in the U.S. when ever they're not chopping down trees. The lumberjacks would go around telling stories about strange creatures with bizarre features, all collectively called "Fearsome Critters", in an attempt to either trick or fool around with outsiders.

P.S. I also wanted to give it a more cartoony appearance ala Gravity Falls. Sense these monsters are said to live in places like Oregon, it seemed quit appropriate.
